Spell Check

All parents, at some time or other, have to spell words in conversation so their kids don’t know what they’re talking about. (We had to do it with dogs as well.) It can have a great effect on kids, challenging them to “solve the puzzle”, and in effect learn to spell at an early age. There’s likely a tie between parents who spelled out words, and kids who go on to win spelling bees. I’m running this blog and don’t have time to research this cause and effect but if somebody could do that that’d be great!

There's a second group of parents who just like to show off their spelling skills and stick with this concept for too long. If you're spelling words out loud like o-r-t-h-o-d-o-n-t-i-s-t, yeah, it's great you can spell that, but maybe it's time to move on.
